Hertz customers will have a range of new digital payment options, including Apple Pay in the US
Stripe, a business- payments provider, has partnered with Hertz to power payments for its Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty car rental brands.
Hertz, headquartered in Florida, will bring together most of its in-person and online payment volume onto Stripe as part of its digital rental strategy.
With the deal, San Francisco-based Stipe will support Hertz payments with in-person bookings and online reservations. Hertz is also rolling out Apple Pay for US rental purchases.
Stripe Terminal will be used for in-person transactions at around 3,000 Hertz locations around the world.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Stripe to provide our customers with new digital payment options that will enable a faster and more seamless rental experience,” said Tim Langley-Hawthorne, chief information officer at Hertz.
“Getting our customers on the road quickly with exceptional service is our top priority and this partnership with Stripe is an example of how we’re leveraging advanced technology to make that possible.”
Founded in 1918, Hertz is aiming to build a more diversified car rental fleet and serve a wider range of customers, including leisure, business travellers and rideshare drivers.
Originally known as rent-a-car, the company manages billions in revenue from customers booking online and in-person, such as airports.
