Former Standard Chartered executive James Hopkinson and Eight Roads tech partner Stuart Morley strengthen ClearBank’s senior management team and sets the bank up for its next stage of growth

ClearBank, the cloud-based clearing bank, has appointed James Hopkinson as chief financial officer and Stuart Morley as chief information officer.

Hopkinson joined ClearBank earlier this year from Standard Chartered where he spent almost 20 years in a variety of roles, most recently as the global co-head of finance and chief financial officer for the group’s regions and segments, based in Singapore.

As ClearBank’s chief financial officer, Hopkinson is also an executive director on its board and a member of the executive committee.

He will be responsible for driving thought leadership and innovation across the finance team and the broader business strategy.

Hopkinson takes over the role of chief financial officer from Marc Jenkins, who has moved to head of strategic projects, a role focused on the further development of ClearBank’s proposition and delivering value-led services to its client base.

Commenting on his appointment, Hopkinson said: “I’m proud to have joined the bank at such an exciting time in its growth and look forward to working with the strong and talented team as we develop the next generation of banking solutions together.”

In the newly established role of chief information officer, Morley will be responsible for leading and driving all aspects of technology at ClearBank.

He has more than 25 years of experience working in financial services, predominantly in technology leadership roles.

In his last role, Morley was the technology partner for Eight Roads, the venture and principal capital firm that invests in and supports the growth of fintech and other startup businesses.

Prior to this, Morley was chief information officer for Fidelity International in Asia and led the firm’s global innovation programme.

Morley said of his appointment: “I am delighted to have joined ClearBank and look forward to working with ClearBank’s talented innovation team, helping to drive the bank forward to the next level of excellence.”

Charles McManus, chief executive officer of ClearBank, added: “We are thrilled to announce James and Stuart’s appointments, which further strengthens ClearBank’s senior management team and helps set us up for our next stage of growth.”

“James and Stuart join ClearBank at an exciting time, as we continue to build upon our banking-as-a-service proposition and deliver innovative, cloud-based and technology-led services to more and more customers.”
