Kathy Griffin previously worked at Monzo, the digital bank, as director of compliance for the last 18 months

Kathy Griffin has joined Target Group as chief risk officer to “lead and build out” its risk and compliance function.
Headquartered in the UK, Target is a software provider for lending, savings and investments. Griffin previously worked at Monzo, the digital bank, as director of compliance for the last 18 months.
At Monzo, she led the regulatory compliance function, created Monzo’s compliance function and led regulatory engagement.
“Kathy’s track record speaks for itself—she’s worked for some of the biggest names in financial services, so I’m delighted she’s on board to help us move into our exciting next chapter,” said John Barker, chief executive officer at Target Group.
“Kathy has incredible experience not just in terms of the UK’s regulatory environment, but internationally too, and she will be front and centre as we look to build out our capabilities in this area.”
Previously, Griffin was the chief risk officer at Earnd, where she tackled financial crime, worked on anti-money laundering procedures, and ensured local and global compliance.
On her new role, Griffin said: “The UK regulatory landscape is changing as we enter a post-pandemic world, one which will be focusing far more on consumer duty, and ensuring that everyone has fair access to the products which are right for them.”
Griffin also referenced issues she and Target will face in her new role, due to the “challenging financial environment and cost-of-living crisis”.
The appointment comes as part of a change in leadership at Target, as the firm seeks to double its revenue in three years.
Last month, John Barker was promoted to chief executive officer, from chief operating officer.
Griffin noted that “Target is entering a new era, following a change in leadership and new senior leadership team. The company is moving in an exciting direction.”
At Monzo, Griffin also worked on its diversity and inclusion strategy, mentoring colleagues and speaking up on mental health awareness.
It’s a role she is keen continue at Target. “I’m delighted to be on board and to add to the diverse voices already in place,” Griffin said.
Barker added that Griffin is a “big advocate for diversity and inclusion—something I’m also extremely passionate about, means she’ll be a focal point for our activities”.
